Beth Costello brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for swimming to the Decatur Family YMCA Bluefins With over 30 years in competitive swimming and coaching, Beth has established Bluefins as a formidable force in the Decatur, GA area. Beth's career as a competitive swimmer, achieving notable achievements, such as national titles, records, and more. Transitioning into coaching years ago has since dedicated her career to developing young swimmers into champions both in and out of the pool. Under Beth's leadership, coaching philosophy emphasizes not only technical mastery and physical conditioning but also fostering a supportive team environment where athletes thrive both as individuals and as a cohesive unit. Beyond coaching, Beth is committed to instilling values of discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork in her athletes, preparing them for success both in swimming and in life.
Coach Avel was born in Trinidad and Tobago. Coach Avel came to the US at the age of 11 where he graduated from Clarkston High School where he was the co captain of his swim team and lead them to victories numerous times . Avel loves the pool and swimming he has many certifications that make him such an amazing swim coach which include lifeguarding, water safety instructor, adaptive swimming along with special needs and so many amazing things he has under his belt. With a passion for swimming and a commitment to excellence, I strive to create a positive and motivating environment for all team members. My organizational skills and attention to detail help streamline administrative tasks, allowing our swimmers to focus on their training and performance goals.
Outside of the pool, I am dedicated to fostering a sense of community within our team, organizing events, and communicating effectively to keep everyone informed and engaged. I am proud to contribute to the success and growth of our swimmers both in and out of the water.
